Montenegro in short is a Disneyland for hiking and nature lovers. A lot of popular hiking trails such as Via Dinarica, Peaks of Balkan, 5 National parks with a lot of hiking and goat paths, Circuit around Kucka Korita, Mountain lakes tours, Mrtvica canyon trail, abandoned villages .. Mrtvica Canyon trail (tour)

But the 2020 bridge over the river was knocked down because of a strong winter that year. All trails are marked so there is no possibility of missing a road. Most beautiful place is the Gate of Wishes , where you should think of a wish from your heart. Fairy from the mountain will make sure your wish comes true. We usually finish our tour on one beach after 9 km walking. But you can stop any time and return back with the same road. Hiking trail (tour) to Vasojevicki kom
If you go or stay in Kolasin, on a road to Matesvo after 1 hour driving you will see Vasojevicki kom. You have a road to the beginning of trail. Also from here you can go to Kucki kom as well, elevation is 500 m and you need around 2 hours and half hiking. We recommend this tour in dry weather, because if you go in the raining period it is very slippery. However it is an amazing view and on the button you can stay in some of ethno villages.
National Park Durmitor Hiking
Our most popular National park in the North of the country. We recommend Bobotov kuku , the highest peak in this park and Montenegro and Prutas “king of views”. But only If you are in good shape for both peaks, otherwise we recommend you walk to Jablan lake. Of course always in the summer or late September , but when there is no snow. So, Bobotov kuk is best to start from Sedlo. It is very easy to find it and during all trails you have markation . Last 200 m is a little bit dangerous, auxiliary ropes are in operation. View over the Skrcka lake is gorgeous but be careful please. Hiking in Durmitor National park is a little bit tricky since the terrain we walk on is a small stone, sipar, very slippery. So always check the weather forecast before going since elevation is 900m and around 7 hours walking duration.
Prutas peak you can reach from https://www.summitpost.org/pruta/154418 , amazing view on Bobotov kuk and places around Durmitor National park. This hiking is moderate around 600 m elevation with 5 hours duration hiking. Few places from starting a route . If you are starting a trail from Zabljak we recommend you to go by this road to Plužine. It is an amazing landscape.
Prokletije Hiking
This is our favorite park for hiking in Montenegro. But most people always ask for Durmitor National park, well it is better marketing for sure. After all, all our Natural parks are beautiful.
We will write three hiking trails : Talijanka, Popadija , Volusnica around 7 hours hiking Karaula hiking, around 6 hours and Hridsko lake around 4 hours hiking trail . First two hiking starting from valley Grebaje. This tour also can be done from Podgorica. Good thing is that we have a new border with Albania which make one of this tours possible in one day. All this trails are as well part of Peaks of Balkan.
The other beautiful hiking would be to Hridsko lake . Elevation only 500 m very easy. After few hours you will reach this beautiful lake where fairies used to swim by one local legend.

If you choose to rent a car you have all recommended places in Tourist info. Although we must advice you that on some places road is narrow, macadam, village road, so you must be carful. We are generally very famous by hospitality. Also take some small present like chocolate or coffee. Montenegro is small country, but country which is full of contrast. You can find on a lot of forums explanation such as a “country where less is more”, “in one day mountain and sea-coast”, “wild beauty”. One is for sure the country where you can get in love in a lot of different ways.
day 1 Pick up at the airport . Welcome meeting and dinner , Podgorica overnight.
day 2 Fist day we planned easy hiking in total 10 km. After breakfast we are starting our journey to National Park Biogradska Gora. This is one of the last three virgin forest in the Europe. Beautiful lake which shining surrounded by forest makes impression of calm and peaceful filling. We are starting hiking to Bendovac trough this magical forest, on the 1700 m above the sea level. This is also great road for mountain dirty cycling. When we reach Dolovi Lalevica we are going to have lunch in beautiful Eco camp with homemade food. Here we have some free time to absorb sound of wind, bird and mountain, smell of Medicinal herbs which even now we use for healing.
We will continue through Canyon Tara River to impressive Djurdjevica Tara Bridge. After foto stop we will continue to Zabljak and in wooden cottage where we will stay two nights.
Day 3Prutas hiking or how this peak got name King of Durmitor’s viewpoints peaks! This hiking is one of the most beautiful on Durmitor and perfect for active holiday in Montenegro. Amazing view from the beginning of a tour. This tour is medium hard with elevation of 800 m in total duration of hiking is around 4 hours. Experience and adventure of this tour is something what you will take with you in your heard for a lifetime.
As we mentioned North of country is reach by healthy herb so we are going to visit family manufacture of tea and to have a launch here. Our host will explain us process of making a tea. For rest of a day we planned visit of well-known Black lake in a heart of Durmitor National Park.
Day 4 Montenegro is well known for great activities such as rafting on the Tara River. In the morning after epic ride through part of Durmitor ring, Trsa, Sedlo, Prutas we will reach Scepan polje . Rafting through the most attractive rapids on Tara River (Borovi, Varda, Ćelije, Vjernovića buk…) with pauses on the most appropriate and beautiful spots, taking photos, swimming…in total 18 km on a river.
Lunch will be in eco village and we are continue our tour to the coast . On our way we will see Slansko, Krupac lake and panoramic view on Kotor bay. Also it is possible to have free time in Perast (short). We are not sure are you going to handle so much beauty in one day. Next two days are planned for overnight in Kotor.
day 5 Is planned for cycling bicycle around the bay of Kotor. Of course very easy and flat and only 20 km of cycling . This part of our country use to be under the Venetian republic so architecture is like in Italy. Poetic ride in the bay we will cut in Stoliv and continue 45 minutes hiking up in abandoned village from 14th century. Houses overgrown with ivy and fantastic panorama view . This tour is around 4 hours duration and you will get free time for Kotor (after loco tour) as a protected UNESCO heritage, or even you can spend a day on some of the docks in the bay. Kotor with Cathedral, Squares, churches, fortress San Giovanni, cat museum, bazaar, walls with all that legends, offers a lot of possibilities.
day 6 Today from Kotor we are going to visit Budva and panorama visit to Sv Stefan. This two pearls are very valuable treasures of Adriatic sea. Old city with Citadel and view on Mogren Beach, open theater, small church from 8th century, narrow streets, fish restaurants, really impressive. Also you will have panorama photo stop on Sveti Stefan.
Our tour takes as to Skadar lake. In addition to fill our National Park Skadar Lake we will have a kayaking in one of the villages around. Skadar lake is the greatest lake on Balkan with 281 species of birds, 48 species of fish, 50 species of mammalian. Amazing nature, culture and costumes from an oldest region of Old Montenegro. Last two night we will stay in Podgorica.
Day 7 Last day of vacation we prepared easy going program. We will visit Old Royal Capital Cetinje, village Njegusi well known by prsutto and smoke cheese. View on all Kotor bay from a top of 25 serpentine road.
Than we are going back to region of Skadar Lake also famous as a wine region. In a small boutique winery they are making all organic products. They traditionally grow grapes and produce wine, brandy, and liqueurs, through generations. Above all you will have opportunity to hear interesting history of this family and way of making wine. Firstly you will try 5 sorts of organic wine, secondly at list 8 to 10 sorts of short drinks. We will finish our active holiday in Montenegro with this maybe the most popular activity.
Since Podgorica is very near to Albanian border, you can choose to have this shortly Albanian experience in 5-6 hours duration.
Certainly the closest bigger city from Podgorica is Shkodra. Shkodra is one of the oldest cities in Abania. Located on the bank of Skadar lake within 20 km from the Adriatic coast and 120 km from the countries capital – Tirana.
After opening the borders this city is more and more attractive for tourists from all over the word. Trough the history this region also used to be a part of old Montenegro.
Definitely from the passing a border you will see completely different par of Europe. First of all huge contrast. On one side modern houses and luxury car on other some strange shape of vehicle. A lot of cows, bike, tractors on a middle of a street. Seems like anywhere can be a market place and you will surprise what can you find here.
The Rozafa fortress is the most impressive sight in town. Beautiful view on Skadar lake and the rivers Bojana, Drin and Kir. This fortress got the name by the legend about the women walled up in the castle for good luck.
We will walk around this old fortress and visit three yards inside the castle.
Next stop is a city center of Shkodra , visiting pedestrian streets, old mosque, monument of Mother Teresa, squers. Also we recommend here a lunch break sine Albanian culinary is famous and cheap.
Probably you also won’t find better cakes and sweets than here. Therefore you will have some free time for shopping and walking in the city.

First day we will start a tour with meeting our history in Old Royal capital Cetinje. Here you will catch a spirit and tradition of our people and visit some important places. After Cetinje we continue our journey to Lovcen National Park and for those who are in the mood you can go up to Mausoleum of Bishop prince Njegos, from where the view is poetic Boka Bay and Adriatic sea on one side and Skadar lake surrounded by mountains on the other.
After we breathe this mixed air the continental and coastal we will continue our trip to Skadar lake and beautiful fishing village Karuc. We can enjoy here in tasty traditional food with a stunning view on the lake. If we have a lucky maybe we will count pelicans which have nests in this part of the lake.

Second day after breakfast we are going to discover our North and beautiful nature with two National Parks Biogradska gora and Durmitor. We are planning more activities on this tour, so after passing Canyon Moraca and visiting Monastery from 12 Th century we will reach Biogradska Gora National Park.
This is one of the last three virgin forest in the Europe. Legend says that for locals was forbidden to cat threes around this Biogradsko lake, because that brings bad luck for all family. Beautiful lake which shining surrounded by forest makes impression of calm and peaceful filling. Here we will spend around 2 hours or more and than we are going on tasty lunch on a Tara River.
On a way to Durmitor National Park we have Djurdjevica Tara Bridge. The way and situations in which this bridge grove above the River Tara are very interesting and usually our guests come with a impression from a movie “The Bridge” and with a famous melody Bella Ciao. There is no word to explain this stunning view on a second deepest canyon in the world, Tara Canyon. Here you also have possibility to try zip line.
If you think this is a lot for a one day, we can sure you that even after all this you will be breathless when you see Black lake.
We will enjoy in nature and the place which are the most interesting to spend night are wooden cottage. Even in summer here we have to turn on the fire.
Third day of our tour after breakfast we can stay a little more in NP Durmitor, or to continue our journey to our sea-coast. Of course we will stop on a few beautiful spots like it is Krnovo village with wind-mills. All this road is stunning so we will start early in the morning to catch morning bright. One more beautiful village which is very important in our history is Grahovo. We will enter inside the village to visit Grahovo lake, botanic garden made by commandant who used to travel all over the world, goats farm. Be sure that this will be interesting visit.
Only on 45 min from Grahovo our Perl of Kotor bay is Perast, idyllic small town
Some of travel bloggers describing walk through this town as a walk-through eternity. Rich history that is hiding in all narrow streets, adorn also two islands as two of the brightest pearls of Kotor buy, Our Lady of the Rocks and St Georg (the island of silence). We will go by boat to Our Lady of the Rocks and visit this beautiful church. All this area around Kotor Bay is protected by UNESCO culture heritage. We will drive to Kotor, as a most popular touristic place, that is also a fortified town on our Adriatic coast. Characterized by winding streets and squares, this medieval old town has several Romanesque churches. Square with Cathedral of Saint Tryphon, well known as a protector of a city. Inhabitants of Kotor are mostly proud because city is under the UNESCO protection as culture-historical heritage. Stairs that leads to the castle of St Giovani are in total 4,5km long , in addition to see a stunning view on a Kotor buy. During the all walk up and down you will be inspired to imagine the way of life in some past centuries.
Kotor Old Town
Opposite to this medieval old town, we will take a trip to Tivat new town, trough beautiful Kotor bay. This is a poetic narrow road with magical landscape.
